Our Villas are designed with an emphasis on:
-
The integration of water retention, water recycling and water conservation systems to achieve independence from given water supplies.
-
Energy Conservation: applying the technology of ‘living roofs’ to reduce or eliminate the need for air conditioning units.
-
The creation of natural biotopes to recycle and conserve water, result in cooler and fresher air regions as well as offering natural beauty spots to relax in. Water retention in the wet season eliminates the worries of how to upkeep garden landscapes when water supplies are rationed and stress on water supplies for the general population.
To reduce the impact on the environment of building your luxury villa and to conserve energy at the same time, it is possible to use the technology of re planting lawns or small fields of natural grasses and flowers onto the roofs.
The insulation of the roofs with earth and grasses restricts the penetration of heat from the sun and conserves the naturally cooler air that is created below. This technology is not restricted to flat roof constructions but can also be applied to angled roofs, it is giving back to nature a portion of what was taken.
By using these environmentally friendly concepts by no means restricts or impedes on the design of your luxury villa. But in fact they effectively enhance your immediate surroundings, they are creating a greater diversity in the plant life, which at the same time improves the oxygen levels in the immediate vicinity.
To implement these measures into the planning from the very beginning does not necessarily mean, that the initial investment costs will be so much higher, that you can no longer build your villa. But on the other hand, the positive effects on reducing the running costs will be noticeable from the moment the villa is in use.
Electricity is and will get more expensive every year, and with the steady rise in oil prices, will become a factor that must be considered carefully when planning your villa. Solar energy as an alternative energy source will become a viable solution, but a reduction in the use of energy in general a definitive must. To impinge on the comforts of your luxury villa because of a reduction in the use of energy, would be an anomaly to the word luxury. But to continue to use energy as if there were no crisis would be very blasé and not very respectful to the local population, who will then suffer under further power cuts and restrictions.
The construction of the roofs enabling the re planting of lawns, wild grasses and flowers, is more cost intensive than a normal roof, but the reduction in electricity bills, due to the insulation and the cooling of the air within the villa, offset the costs within a few years. Also the upkeep of the roof, apart from paying the gardener, is most certainly cheaper and less work intensive, than the maintenance of normal roofs.
This is most definitely an aspect to keep in mind when being confronted by “friends and acquaintances” that may well question the need of a luxury villa as a retreat on Bali, The Island of the Gods.
